I don’t know about you, but I am so excited it is finally summer here in Chicago! My girls have been out of school for more than two weeks and it has been rough convincing them they were on summer vacation with this terribly cold and rainy weather we were having. Then all of a sudden we were hit with summer, 100% humidity and all! Which made this month’s photographer’s circle theme so much fun. The theme this month is refreshing very appropriate for this time of year! When I think about the word refreshing I think of the ocean, spending the day at the spa, and sipping on ice cold lemonade. So this month I had to share a session I did for one of my clients.

One of my most favorite clients, Ella, is turning one this month and her birthday party is a lemonade theme. Her super creative mom went all out to celebrate her first birthday and even had her own lemonade stand made! It honestly was one of my most favorite sessions, probably because lemonade is my absolute favorite summertime treat.

I was nervous about this month’s theme for the photographer’s circle I belong to. The theme is Air.  I couldn’t wrap my head around the idea of capturing air.  Then one night while playing outside with my girls on the swings it hit me, the swings!! My girls flying in the air!  This is a nightly ritual in our house now that the weather has finally warmed up.  We eat diner and then head out to the swings to see who can swing the highest.  My girls have always loved swinging on the swings.  Even as itty bittys they could spend hours in their swing.  Now that they are bigger they love it even more.  They love when we give them “super duper” pushes and I love listening to them giggle!

This month’s theme for the photographer’s circle is life.  At first I thought oh that is easy I can do … wait what is life? Should I use pictures from a newborn session? Or maybe pictures of a couple starting their life together.  Then I thought about taking pictures of flowers blooming, and quickly realized that isn’t happening in the suburbs of Chicago.  So then I started to panic and almost thought about not participating this month.  I know it seems silly but this theme really stumped me.  I think I was over thinking it.  Then I realized life was actually all around me.  To me life is what I wake up to every morning. Life is what I thank God everyday for.  Life is my family.  To me, life isn’t about the big things that happen; it’s about living the little everyday things.  Here is a peek into my life! I hope you enjoy it.

I can’t believe that last year around this time I started Erin Nisi Photography.  I never imagined I would be where I am today.  I have put so much into this dream and I can see that it is really starting grow into what I hoped and prayed it would be one day.  All I can say is THANK YOU!!! It’s because of my amazing family, friends, and clients that I am where I am today!  If it weren’t for all of you ENP would not still be up and running! I have spent this year learning all that I can to make ENP the best it can be.

I have learned so much about myself and the type of business I want to run.  I promised myself that I would take this year slow, I would learn all that I could by taking workshops, joining online forums, and having mentors.  I also promised myself I would practice photographing everything.  This year I did that I photographed everything from newborns to parties, even a wedding.  Although I have loved all my experiences I now feel confident in where I want to focus my photography.  While learning I have also been able to reflect on how I can make ENP even better and with that comes change.

Changes…

The first change and one that will effect you most directly is pricing.  This is the hardest change I have had to make.  When I calculate the hours I spend traveling to locations, photographing, editing, and packaging up your prints, I realize that I can’t continue to produce a quality product at my current rates.  I put so much into each session and I can only  keep doing that if I value my time and talent more.  I am going to continue to offer digital images but something new that I am going to offer are prints.  I can’t tell you how many times a client has sent me an email or called letting me know they printed somewhere other than the company I recommend and their prints didn’t turn out as they had hoped.  I have learned that using a professional printer is essential when you are investing in custom photography.  I am going to offer an incentive to you to order your prints through me so that I can be confident all my hard work will be seen when you display your images! The second change has to do with newborn sessions.  I have struggled with this decision even up until writing this post.  I have decided that at this time ENP will only be offering lifestyle newborn sessions.  Now if we already have a session booked, don’t panic! This will be in effect for all new sessions booked.  What does that mean?  It simply means that if you are looking for those adorable newborn posed baby photos I am not your girl.  The good news is I have some amazingly talented photographer friends that I will be more than happy to refer you to but this photog is sticking to real life newborn shoots.  Here is a peek of a newborn lifestyle session.  Keep an eye out for a lifestyle section under my portfolio where I will be adding all my lifestyle work.

Speaking of lifestyle photography, I absolutely love it and you will see a lot more of it from me this year.  This is an area where I really want to grow my business.  Having said that if you book a lifestyle session in the month of April to be used anytime before 11/15/2013 you will receive 20% off the session!  Lifestyle sessions are not just for newborns!!!

Now on to the exciting stuff!  Somewhere along the way to making it to a year, ENP hit 1000 fans!!! I can’t even believe it.  I remember last April thinking will anyone find my page?
